A group called “Project Y!”, which is organized only by college students, undertakes amendment of the rules. Students from Otaru University of Commerce, Hokkaido University, Sapporo Gakuin University, Hokkaido University of Education Iwamizawa Campus, Sapporo International University and Hokkai-Gakuen University participate in Project Y!, discussing matters such as the current challenges, a rule set focused on fairness and objectivity, and an operating structure. The rule set of 2017 will be announced in late December.
Participants and staff work together to clean up snow on the roads of a residential area in Otaru. No point is given in this competition, but when at least four (4) members participate, the team will be eligible for points from the other competitions and for prizes.
Two (2) shovels and two (2) snow carts will be provided to each team. A mass of snow (1.8m x 0.9m x 0.9m) will be assigned to each team. Team members work together to collapse the mass of snow and carry the snow using the snow carts to a position 10m away. The fastest team to complete the moving receives the highest point. Starting this year, member substitution is allowed and up to eight (8) members can play. However, only four (4) members can play at the same time.
In this game, points are given to each team based on the size and number of snowmen made and decoration added to them within 1-hour time limit. * The start and end time are subject to change, depending on the number of participants/teams etc.
